Upholstered benches & stools

To design this bench I looked to the Queen Anne furniture of the 18th century, but simplified the form for a modern living room. The legs echo the grace and movement of their cabriole ancestors, while the mortise and tenon construction and traditionally upholstered slip seat haven’t changed a bit.

The bench (bottom) in cherry came first, but the ottoman (top) in white oak and leather is one of my favorite pieces. Paired with a wingback chair I rehupholstered, it does duty by a cozy fire. The design could be adapted for a variety of sizes, woods, and fabrics. Contact me if you’re interested in discussing a custom version.
