Carved-edge stools

The generous seat is carved with a drawknife, the octagonal legs and stretchers are locked in place with traditional wedged through-tenons, and the finished stool is painted in layered colors of milk paint to highlight the texture—or finished naturally to highlight the wood grain.

Shown above are a 13½-inch footstool, an 18-inch chair-height stool, and a 25-inch barstool. Most are made of various woods, usually a poplar seat with ash legs and stretchers, and finished with two layers of milk paint (see this page for options), but the design also looks great in solid white oak, finished naturally or, as above, antiqued with linseed oil, garnet shellac, and black wax. The options are practically endless. Contact me for a quote.

…and tables

The same design makes a great side table, too—shown here in white oak with a natural finish. A second, smaller layer of oak under the top adds strength while keeping a light look.
